STUN GUNS

The Stun Gun is another fabulous non-lethal means of self-defense. The stun gun, though more powerful than pepper spray, does not rely on pain for results. I know that you probably would like to hurt them, but again this is all about you being able to get away safely. While pepper spray will actually cause your attacker excruciating pain for at least 30 minutes (perhaps longer), stun guns use high voltage and low amperage to temporarily disable your attacker for several minutes. I really like that word --- disable---- when it comes to bad guys, don’t you?

The energy stored in a stun gun is dumped into the attacker’s muscles, causing them to do a great deal of work rapidly. This rapid work cycle instantly depletes the attacker’s blood sugar by converting it to lactic acid. In short, he is unable to produce energy for his muscles and his body is unable to function properly. Now, when an attacker just can’t function, that’s a very good thing! The stun gun also interrupts the tiny neurological impulses that control and direct voluntary muscle movement. When the attacker’s neurological and muscular system is overwhelmed and controlled by the stun gun, he loses his balance and he is going down, but not permanently, so run like heck and call the police. And you don’t have to worry about the possibility of zapping yourself should the attacker be touching you. The current will not pass to your body so you will be completely safe.

When buying a STUN GUN you want to know what the amperage is, not the Voltage. Voltage is really just a marketing thing. Ten years ago stun guns would be 500,000 volts, then they went to 800,000 volts, then 1 Million Volts – WHOO HOO!!

IT'S NOT THE VOLTAGE - IT'S THE AMPERAGE!!!

Now your stun gun should really never be over 5 Milliamps. THAT'S MILLI – AMPS, NOT AMPS !!! ONE AMP will kill you. The Milliamps are extremely important because it's the delivery system. When you hit someone with your Stun Gun, those Milliamps are what transfers the Voltage into the body. So without a good delivery system, it doesn't matter what the volts are. With an excellent delivery system, whether 1 million or 20 million volts, it'll do the job.

Oh and a little extra, your Stun Gun is great as a deterrent, both for four-legged animals as well as the two-legged variety. Before you head across that dark parking lot to your car, keep in mind that a real predator you probably won't see, not while he is sizing you up as a potential target. He wants easy-peazy and he is looking for 3 things:

  1. Do you look like somebody I can take down?
  2. Are you paying attention to your surroundings, or staring at/yakking on your cell phone?
  3. Do you have any means of self-defense on you.

So, you are going to give him an answer of YES for #'s 2 and 3 by just firing off your Stun Gun a couple of times. Just a second at a time, don't lay on it like you would if you are trying to get him on the ground. Once he hears that he now knows:

  1. Yes, you definitely have some self-defense.
  2. And more importantly, you are paying attention to your surroundings.

You are no longer the perfect victim and he's gonna go find somebody else.

And Stun Gun's are great for discouraging an animal attack. Take your Stun Gun with you when you are out walking your dog where you may come across a dog that's running lose (friendly or not? You don't know) or out hiking where you may come across an animal of some kind. The thing about animals, they are not only reacting to that really scary sound your Stun Gun makes but unlike us humans, they can also feel the electrical charge your Stun Gun is sending out.

Don't try to stun an animal. They have that really thick fur so it would probably only work on their nose. I don't know about you, but unless I know for sure it would rather lick me than eat me, my hand isn't going anywhere near those teeth.
